Along with many things in the world today, paving has advanced and gone beyond the traditional few options that were once available. At the Leicestershire Paving Company, we’ve seen a huge transformation in design over recent years. There’s also a lot more confidence show by home owners who want to go for something different.

Modern and contemporary paving covers a whole range of design ideas and materials, all of which can add plenty of style and elegance to your patio, front garden, driveway or any pathway you have around your home.

If you want to create something that stands out, however, it’s important to choose the right materials first of all. While the traditional choice might be limestone or sandstone, you may want to try something different like natural granite, precast concrete or even travertine paving. You can also choose to mix different materials and even include wood if you want.

Perhaps you want a Southern European style with terracotta style and warmer colours. You may like the idea of a Nordic style patio, with cool, clean lines. You might want to include a training wall or have an area such as an outdoor pool that you want to incorporate with your design.

Modern paving tends to be characterised by clean edges and smoother materials as opposed to the rather rustic cut that you get with traditional patios or driveway designs. These look brilliant as a background or base for any garden. It isn’t the only possibility, however. You can combine different materials such as brick and stone to create designs that have more definition. You can also vary the size of the stone slabs that you use.

If you are after that modern or contemporary paving look, we often advise to keep the design fairly simple. Lots of swerves and curves or many different kinds of stone can make an area look too fussy. Of course, a lot depends on the size of garden that you need to cover. You might want to have a mix of traditional and contemporary paving – perhaps some stones that are more roughly cut and less ridged combined with those that are precise and a lot smoother.

The good news is that there are a lot of options if you are looking for quality paving nowadays. Whatever space you have, whether it’s the garden, a long pathway, a driveway or you want a dedicated patio, settling on the best design for your home from the outset is important.

The Leicestershire Paving Company help you make all the right decisions when it comes to designing any new garden, path or driveway space. We’ll be able to come up with a range of different options and materials for you to choose from along with designs that really show off your home.
